Me, Me, Me

Hello!  Welcome to my little site!  My name is Hairyshoefairy, sometimes known as HSF. My husband made it up. I used to be a hair stylist, have a serious shoe fetish, and “fairy” rhymes with “hairy,” so there you go. Hairyshoefairy. I’ve been blogging since 2006.

I’m a late-twenties mama of two kidlets, Peanut and Wingnut.  As a stay-at-home-mama I’ve embraced my hermit ways and spend most of my waking hours either messing up or cleaning up the house with my two ankle-biters.  Occasionally I prop the chillens up in front of a movie programmed to repeat and hide myself away in my sewing room to make stuff.  Somehow they always find me and drag me back into toddlerdom.  While they’re sleeping I dabble in blog and graphic design.  Or nap.

I’m a classically trained coloratura soprano.  Once upon a time I studied vocal performance but quickly changed my major because I wanted to still like music when I finished school.  After a nearly 8 year finance-induced break I started taking voice lessons again in September 2010.  In addition to classical training I’ve also studied belt, pop, and jazz.  Over the years I’ve participated in huge productions and floor shows, soloed in concert halls, and done some occasional studio recording.  Currently most of my singing is to my sweet children who often complain that I’m “too loud!”  If you’re curious as to what I actually sounds like you can have a listen here.

I come from a family of foodies and have always enjoyed food but didn’t really get into cooking on my own until 2008 or so.  I frequently post pictures of yummy things I make and sometimes even remember to add the recipe that goes with them.  That’s not to say I don’t like a fast food burger or delivery pizza, I just have a lot of appreciation for really good food and the love and workmanship that goes into it.  One of my friends calls me a foodie who isn’t actually snobby.  I take it as a compliment.

Currently, I’m living in the Salt Lake area while my husband, ODD, finishes his residency.  Then we will stay here a little longer while he starts a job and we begin paying off the massive loans we’ve incurred for said schooling and occupation.  Whee!  The fun never ends, does it?  I dream of one day owning a charming, old house I can paint and decorate any way I want and my husband dreams of owning acres and acres of land so he doesn’t have to see anybody unless he wants to.  Or until he goes to work.  We’ll probably both have to compromise a little on our dreams and it’ll probably be for the best.

ODD (formerly NYDD) and I have been married since 2002.  We are opposites in almost everything.  Pretty much the only thing we agree on is our religious beliefs yet somehow we balance out one another’s personalities and I can’t imagine anyone better suited to me than ODD.  We were friends in high school but didn’t really date until ODD’s first year of college and got married during his second.  After ODD graduated from Utah State University we spent three years in Oakland, California while ODD attended podiatry school.  Now we’re back in Utah where we hope to stay the rest of our lives so we can be near our families.
