This morning I woke up and thought it would be fun to make some more candy so I called up Em, whom I knew wanted to get in on the candy-making, and whom I was wanting to play with again anyway, and invited her over.
A few weeks ago I picked up The Farm Chicks Christmas book and saw these adorable little meringue stars. I knew I had to give them a try. They are so cute and tasty. I’m already a huge fan of meringue cookies so to make some that were so itty bitty and melt-in-your-mouth yummy was extra fun.
I made two batches today and dusted some with blue sprinkles for something different and I wish I’d done more.
I’m taking some to a friend I’m having lunch with tomorrow and plan to make even more for Peanut’s teachers at preschool when it gets closer to Christmas.
All the kids scarfed them down, peeling them off the aluminum foil on their own so they could get a handful. I also made a batch of regular meringue cookies and colored them pink at Peanut’s urging and she still preferred these little stars.
Em and I bundled the kids up and sent them outside to play in the untouched snow in our back yard. Peanut and Sir Oliver had a great time and stayed out for about and hour and a half and only came in when Em needed to get Oliver ready to leave. The little guys didn’t last very long. The snow was so deep neither Wingnut nor Capt. Graham could walk in it with their short little legs without falling over and crying. After taking a few photos of their hardships (cuz I’m a good mom like that) we brought them in and changed them out of their snow clothes. I put Wingnut down for a much needed nap and Graham happily played with toys without being managed by any older siblings. Sadly Em forgot the card for her camera so none of the photos were saved and I spaced off pulling my camera out so I don’t have any photos of the snow fun either. It was pretty funny, though, and at least we have a funny memory of it.
While the kids were playing or sleeping I threw together a batch of fudge. I was planning on caramels that I could dip in chocolate later but realized too late that I didn’t have enough Karo syrup so I had to do something else. I had some Andes mint chips so I used those instead of chocolate chips and made mint fudge. I wasn’t intending on making fudge at all this Christmas but after realizing I couldn’t do caramels it sounded really good. Em had to leave all too soon but I’m glad she came over and I plan to have another candy-making day with her and the kids in the next few weeks.

Those… look… even… yummier!!!
