My little sister, Teeny, just graduated from high school. She kept her hair long all through high school because she likes it long and it gave her a lot of options when she dressed up for dances. For a month or so she’s been talking about cutting it off after graduation and I agreed it would be a great idea. Her hair wasn’t in very good shape. She colors it a lot (often without me), heat styles it a lot, and it’s really dry, fine, and thin anyway. I thought cutting it short would be a great way to sort of start over with it. I could cut off all, or at least most, of the damaged hair and she could have a fresh new look with better hair.
On Saturday my dad had to come to Salt Lake for a choir practice* and Teeny came with him so she could get her hair done. I cut off about six inches.
Before:
After: Flipped out. Think along the lines of Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama
Curled under: Sorry about the weird lighting.
I think the curled under version suits her more but I’m not really a flippy kind of girl myself, so I’m a little biased. She hasn’t had her hair this short since she was in maybe kindergarten. It’s almost always been at least past her shoulders. My favorite quote from the day was when she saw herself in the mirror with a stick straight blunt bob (no texturizing yet) and said, “I look like Ramona Quimby, Age 8.” Yeah, at that moment she kinda did, minus the bangs. I think she’s finally getting used to it, though, not feeling so Ramona Quimby-ish, and when I saw her on Sunday she told me how much she liked it. I think it’s a good change for her.
*For quite a few years in his twenties my dad was in Mormon Youth Chorus and this year they’re having a reunion concert. It’s in a few weeks and they have several rehearsals in Salt Lake to prepare for it. He’s loving it and I’m excited for him.

LOVE the bob! And LOVE the Ramona reference.
I think the new bob is a great new-phase-of-life cut, and she really has the features to pull off short hair. So fun and super cute!
You look great Teeny! And btw, I love Ramona, but can appreciate not wanting her hair.
You’re a good sister HSF,
