Lately I’ve been making quite a few thing; mostly cooking/baking-making but also some sewing-making as well.
Last week there were a few days that were so nice outside it felt like spring was really here. To help me feel a little more spring-y I made some Santa Rosa Valley Salad. Peanut gobbles it up but Wingnut still gets hung up on the peppers. He can’t quite break them down enough with the six little teeth he has so he usually sucks on them until I realize he still has them in his mouth. He loves the rice and nuts, though.
We don’t really celebrate Cinco de Mayo but at the time Mexican (or Mexican inspired) food sounded really good to me so I tried a new recipe that day, Chicken Flautas with Avocado Cream. It was so good I’m adding it to my regular menu list. My mom and Jazz were down for some doctor appointments (found out Jazz is going to need open-heart surgery again probably in the next year) and came over for dinner. Jazz, who never eats dinner with us actually ate it. Yeah, it was that good. I have plans to make it again this week.
I attempted making lavender white chocolate scones last week like the ones I had at The Beehive Tea room. I found a recipe I thought might work and gave it a shot. It was way heavy on the lavender but aside from that it was really good.
Attempt #1
So I decided to try again last night. This time I cut way back on the lavender and it was much better. I at three last night and another this morning for breakfast.
Yesterday I also made a really tasty dinner. I don’t make it often because ODD isn’t such a fan. It’s Peruvian Roasted Chicken with Aji Verde Sauce. Moco and Janesaw made it for us once not long before we moved from California and I loved it so much I asked for the recipe. I’ve made it a few times since but usually when ODD isn’t around. He likes the chicken but in my opinion the sauce is what makes it and since he hates the sauce with all it’s cilantro-y goodness I feel like he doesn’t like the dinner. So he pulls out his trusty BBQ sauce to eat with his chicken and rice (With rice? Gag!) while Peanut and I scarf down mounds of rice and aji verde sauce. Today I made some more rice and had it again for lunch. Last night we had it with mangoes.
I made my mom a little cosmetics bag for Mother’s Day this year. She’d seen mine and told me she wanted one like that so I did a variation with crinkled ribbon and ric rac.
On Monday night ODD fixed the vacuum (and by “fixed” I mean he pulled out the revolving brush and cleaned all the hair and thread off it and with me living here that equals a lot of hear and thread) and vacuumed all the bedrooms and the hallway while entertaining the kids so I could quickly sew up a couple of pairs of baby legs for Wingnut. They’re super easy and fly together in no time.
I haven’t really taken any good pics of them yet but he’s wearing one of them here.
I made a couple of other pairs at the end of March as well and he wears them all the time.
At the time I also made some for Peanut to wear under all her dresses but she wore them for the photo only and not very happily at that. Little turkey.

Okay, first: I am currently making a cookbook of all my favorite things (merely for easy-go-to purposes) and I had been scouring your blog during my spare time to add the “old” picture of Santa Rosa Valley Salad…I clearly should have waited 6 hours. It would have taken far less time. LoL. Second: Your scones and cilantro-chicken-thingy look heavenly, so I feel as though you should share the recipes (if you’re able–I’d hate for you to break promises if they’re secrets). And finally: Wingnut in his baby legs is freakishly adorable and that’s all there is to it.
Again… lavender? Do people really eat lavender??? Where do you buy lavender to eat??? Cuz those scones look SO GOOD!
HSF Wow your kids are sooooo cute and this is my first on your blog so fun !!!! sorry to here about jazz!!! I would love the recipe for the chicken thingy things, kelb will love love so will liza!
I want the chicken and sauce recipe too please! And having it with mangoes = brilliant! Yummy! Hooray for ODD and the vacuum and I love the baby legs. So sweet. Sorry Peanut doesn’t love hers. Oh well.
WOW! You make my pregnant belly ACHE for your food. Can you come live with me and cook for me? I REALLY want to try those recipes…..and I’m actually kind of a picky eater….meaning I’m not too adventurous, but that Avocado/tortilla dish and that rice dish LOOK DIVINE! Why must you tempt me so.
PS- I wish you got a picture of Peanut’s face refusing to take the picture.
