Mother’s Day Recap

Yep, I’m adding to the throng of Mother’s Day posts.  I’ll try not to make it too shmaltzy.

ODD had short call on Sunday meaning he goes in for rounds and stays until 5 or 6.  This left me getting everyone ready for church by myself which I don’t love but it’s not the end of the world.  And we were only 10 minutes late.  Not bad considering I accidentally slept in.

To my happy surprise ODD showed up during Primary to take Wingnut!  He ended up getting off early!  I teach the 8-11 year olds and was just planning to take Wingnut with me which distracts the kids but, again, is not the end of the world, so I was thrilled to see ODD appear in the doorway and rescue Wingnut from some overly attentive twins in our ward.

Peanut is in the Sunbeam (3-4 year old class) this year instead of nursery so this year, for the first time, she got to go up with the rest of the Primary kids and sing a Mother’s Day song in front of the congregation.  ODD and I knew it was coming but weren’t sure she’d actually go up.  I talked to her about it a few times and reminded her about it again as Sacrament Meeting began.  When the time came she went right out of our pew all by herself, walked up with the other kids, and stood in the front so we could see her.  She smiled and sang sweetly and didn’t even pick her nose or anything!  Honestly, I was a little shocked she didn’t wave and/or shout “Hi, mom!” to us.  Usually I find it so entertaining to watch all the goofy things the kids do and laugh with ODD about them but on Sunday I only had eyes for my girl and sat there eating it up and grinning like a fool.  Part way through, after seeing how confidently she stood and sang in front of a crowd, ODD leaned over and whispered, “That is soooo not my child.”  Heh.  Nope.  She’s mine.

For dinner I had made a crock pot roast with potatoes and onions.  We ate outside because it was such a beautiful day.

ODD gave me flowers, of course, but they weren’t from any store this year.  They were pretty tulips from our own yard!  Earlier in the week I found out about a great deal on some freshwater pearls and picked some up for ODD to give to me for mother’s day/my birthday since he couldn’t get to the place that had them with his wacky schedule.  He gave them to me with the flowers and card.  On Friday I helped Peanut make a Mother’s Day gift and card for me for preschool.  The gift is a variation on one of these cute little diaries.  She got to play on the computer, use stamps, and play with pretty paper and twine.  She’s quite proud of it and was excited to give it to me.

To finish off the day I didn’t have to do any of the dishes.  Now that is an excellent gift!

I hope your Mother’s Day was a enjoyable as mine.
