Wingnut turned one recently!
His birthday was on a day ODD was on call so we celebrated as a family the night before. I made some yellow cupcakes with chocolate frosting. We had them after dinner. We sang and let Peanut blow out the candle before letting Wingnut dive in.
And dive in he did.
Good stuff. After the cake we unwrapped his gifts. And by “we” I mean Peanut. The bubbles were a big hit and we played outside with them for quite a while since the weather was so nice.
We got to celebrate again on Saturday. I made the trip to Tinytown so I could to Teeny’s hair for her last big dance of high school. While there my parents wanted to have a little birthday party as well. They invited ODD’s parents as well, though only ODD’s mom was able to make it. She’d had a wild day so I’m glad she was able to come. She had sent a card with some balloons and money earlier so I bought a little outfit with it and took it with me for the party so Wingnut could unwrap something from her while she was there.
The hit of the party was a little toy lawn mower. I’ve mentioned before that Wingnut has been cruising since Christmas but hasn’t been interested in letting go to walk freely. The last day we were at Kermit’s he finally decided he was ready. He let go and hasn’t gone back. Every day his balance improves and he doesn’t even need to pull himself up on things anymore. He can stand up all on his own. It’s funny to see him walking since he’s so little. Anyway, back to the lawn mower. He loves pushing things around. I told my mom about him pushing a little shopping cart all over my in-laws house before he was willing to walk on his own and my mom thought maybe he’d like something of his own to push around. The lawn mower is it and it’s really cute. It sings (which is actually really obnoxious and the batteries may mysteriously disappear one of these days) but the actual mower sound with the balls popping around isn’t too bad unless Peanut is wielding the thing in which case it’s deafening. Wingnut doesn’t give her much chance to use it, though. It’s his favorite thing. The minute he gets downstairs in the morning he looks for it and pushes it around most of the day.
Anyway, after opening all his gifts we had sang and had some cake. My mom was going to make chocolate with chocolate frosting but I suggested chocolate with marshmallow fluff frosting. I haven’t had it for a long time and was happy she agreed. The cupcakes were little minis. Peanut nibbled hers down pretty quick, wiping marshmallow fluff in her hair in the process. Wingnut munched down two or three mini cupcakes stuffing most of the frosting up his nose as he went. I cut him off after those two or three and he cried for more until I showed him his lawn mower again; then all sadness was quickly forgotten until it was time to head home. Ah, sugary bliss.

Awesome festivities… not sure there was enough sugar though.
Happy birthday to that handsome little man!
How cool! Happy birthday, Wingnut. My boys loved toy lawn mowers too. And you know they still love the bubbles
What a little sweetheart boy! Love him!
Okay, so the last “yellow cupcake” picture made me laugh out loud. Wingnut’s face is so intense with the furrow of his brow!
