Spring Dress Refashion #2 and a Tie

Like many other families, I grew up getting a new Sunday dress, shoes, and sometimes a hat on Easter Sunday that I could wear to church during the spring and summer.  ODD thinks it’s a little strange (he doesn’t understand the seasonal clothes thing) but I still do it.

This year I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do for Peanut’s Easter dress even though I’d been thinking about it for a while.  Then one morning I rolled over in bed while pretending I couldn’t hear Wingnut crying for to get him yet and stretched my arm under ODD’s pillow.  ODD had left for the day already and as my hand slid over the mattress I heard a faint tearing sound.  I lifted up the pillow to find I’d torn through the fitted sheet.  I was a little surprised but after remembering we’d used these sheets almost constantly for the last 7+ years of marriage I conceded they were wearing thin.

Later that day I pulled the holey sheet set off the bed, wadded them into a ball, and tossed them into a corner with the intention of throwing them into the trash when I got around to it.  It took me a long time to get around it it, though, which was a good thing because it gave me time to realize I could use all that material for something else; namely an Easter dress for Peanut!

I washed the sheets, let Peanut choose some ribbon, and found a pattern close enough to the picture in my head to work.  I finally put it all together a couple of days before Easter so I could take it on our Riverdale trip.  Even though she wouldn’t be wearing it for Easter Sunday since it was General Conference that day I still wanted her to get her dress along with her Easter basket.  I also threw together a few ties for Wingnut – one for Easter and one for his upcoming birthday.

The week after Easter we missed church because we were driving home from our trip to Kermit’s so it wasn’t until last week that Peanut finally got to wear her dress to church.  The lacy hem was the trim of the flat sheet and pillowcases.  Something I like about refashioning from sheets and pillowcases is they’re already hemmed.

Not sure what the goofy face is about.  My mom says I used to pose the same way with feet together and arms down at my sides.
