On Friday we went to Kermit’s friends’ house to play for a while. N has a great yard and plenty of space for the kids to go crazy. Teeny and I were surprised to find out she had only recently moved from Tinytown after living there for several years. Small world.
We had lunch and chatted while the kiddlets played. After a while we headed home. I had to get back to my computer so I could send some photos of my dad to the newspaper. An article was being written about his struggle with H1N1 and pneumonia and they wanted to use a couple of photos of him from his stay in the hospital. I was the only one with the originals so I was the only one who could send them.
Before we said goodbye we invited N to come with us for a girls night later. Her husband, B, and Fozzie work together and get along well so that evening N and B brought their kids over and N, Kermit, Teeny, and I went out to eat.
We took Kermit’s convertible and when Fozzie came out to tell us goodbye he said we looked like a bunch of trouble. Possibly.
We went to a place called The Standard Diner and I’ve got to say, there was nothing standard about it (I’m sure the lines has been used a million times). It was fantastic. They offer typical diner food but with a twist. As an appetizer we tried the regular fries, sweet potato fries, truffle pecorino romano fries, and rose potato chips with blue cheese, tomatoes, and green onions. They were all awesome but the consensus was that the sweet potato fries were the best. Oh, wow. Yum! For the actual dinner I had the egg salad sandwich but it was made with poached eggs and an aioli and was served on a croissant. It was such a good sandwich it had to be eaten with a knife and fork. It came with a sweet potato and chili soup and together the whole plate was AMAZING! I’m pretty sure I gained a considerable amount of weight in the time we spent there but it was so worth it. Seriously. The only down side was we ate so much we couldn’t even imagine ordering dessert which I’m sad about because the options looked divine. I guess that means I’ll have to go back some day for more. Darn. Apparently The Standard has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins, Dives. I’m not surprised. It’s probably some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. Unfortunately I was too busy stuffing my face to take any pictures of all our yummy food. When our check was brought we realized it hadn’t been split (we forgot to ask our server) so we divided it ourselves. Our server was super gracious about it, though, so we tipped him well.
After dinner we made a little trip to the fabric store before going home to our wild kids. Poor Fozzie was subject to Wingnut’s crying jags (poor, tired boy) and Peanut had just peed on the bathroom floor as I walked in. Back to motherhood. We quickly threw the kids in bed then Kermit, Teeny, and I stayed up talking until some time after 2 am. The night before we only stayed up until 1 am chatting after watching Project Runway. I’m a night owl and my kids sleep in so I don’t mind. I don’t get to have girls nights that often. Pretty much just during the priesthood session of General Conference. It was such a great time and I’m happy I got to spend it with some people I love so much.

You’ve just about convinced me that I could survive a long trip with the kids sans husband…. if I had a mini me along to help!
Sounds like you had TONS of fun. I wanna try this diner! I love cool and different places. And I love sweet potato fries, so that’s another incentive.
I LOVE sweet potato fries! We make them fairly often around here, though I really like them when someone else makes them.
What a fun trip it looks like you had! You look darling and extremely happy in your fun pictures… the convertible picture looks like a bunch of FUN, trouble is beside the point. And I love the ones of you guys shoved in the car with the carpet remnant… classic!
