Trip to Kermit’s, Part 3: The Coolest Children’s Museum Ever

On Thursday we thought it would be fun to take the kids to a local children’s museum.  It was called Explora! (I can’t help thinking about Brian Regan’s Dora the Explorer bit anytime I say or hear it) and was in an area with a bunch of other museums.  Apparently you can get a pass that will get you in to any of them but we only went to the one during our visit.  A couple of Kermit’s kids had been to Explora! before with other people but Kermit herself had never been and we were all excited to go.

Wow!

It. Was. Awesome!

I’ve been to a couple of different children’s museums here and there but this is by far the biggest and coolest.  Everything was hands on and there was so much to see.  There were different areas centered around different subjects; water, wind, sound, etc.  We could easily have spent the entire day from open to close there.  As it was were there for something like five hours.

There were a bunch of different stations in each area where the kids could do experiments or try things out.  In the middle of the water area there was a huge fountain.  At different points the kids could control the flow of the water.  In the sound area they could see how different instruments worked.  In the wind area they could build their own windmills.  There was a big arts and crafts area where Animal and Peanut spent some good time.  They had all sorts of things kids could use to make things; from egg cartons to construction paper, from popscicle sticks to cellophane.  The museum even displays some of the things kids have made there.

Explora!

We spend quite a bit of time in a little area more designed for younger kids.  There were books, blocks, balls, and a cushioned play area.  There were places for parents and tired kids to sit and it was such a great place.

Explora!

There was a play area outside where we ate some snacks and the kids played on the jungle gym.  One of the coolest things out there was a roller slide.  It’s a slide made of rods that spin and the speed of the slide depends on the weight of the child.  Kermit’s oldest son, Scooter, could go down the slide faster than Peanut could because he was bigger.  All the kids enjoyed it, even Wingnut.  We also discovered three baby bunnies under the slide.  The museum was making sure they were okay but the mama bunny must have given birth to them there sometime when the museum was closed.  They were so tiny and the kids loved seeing them up close.

Explora!

Our last stop before leaving was the bubble room.  There were a couple of whole area we completely missed because there’s so much to see but all the things we got to do were very cool and the bubbles station was one of the favorites.  After all, what kid doesn’t like bubbles?  There was a large table of soapy water with big bubble rings.

Explora!

It was such a cool place and definitely worth a visit.
