Kermit had been out of town for about a week before my little clan got there. In fact, she had been home only a few hours before we pulled into her driveway. We were all so exhausted from traveling we only chatted for a little before crashing. Fozzie and the kids had stayed home while Kermit was out of town and he had done some great remodeling in their kitchen as a birthday surprise for Kermit. With all his hard work they had subsisted mostly on fast food and whatever was in the fridge so the next day we went to restock everything. I was so excited because we were going to Trader Joe’s.
I haven’t been to Trader Joe’s since we moved from California almost two years ago. I know some people will probably make fun of me for fangirling about it because lately it’s supposed to be all trendy or whatever but I really have missed it.
We went to a little market as well and got some good produce there for a really good price. Then it was on to Trader Joe’s. I ran up and down the aisles exclaiming over all the things I’ve missed. I filled my cart with their hummus, marcona almonds, flat bread, flat pretzels, and sparkling limeade. The kids were a little wild (there were six between us) but we managed to make it out of the store with everything we wanted and not too much chaos.
That afternoon I used some of the stuff we bought to make some fresh salsa and later that night I used more of the stuff to make a yummy dinner of tomato, onion, and butter sauce with pasta.
Is it strange that of all the shops near Kermit I get excited about a grocery store? ODD thinks it’s weird. He commented to me once he thought it was silly that I took everyone who visited us in CA to Berkeley Bowl because it’s not really a tourist-y kind of place. Maybe it’s just because I enjoy food so much so I find awesome markets to be something worth sharing. Anyway, Teeny and I went back to Trader Joe’s one last time on Saturday to get a few more things before heading home. I mean, Peanut is thrilled to pieces to have been eating their yummy hummus every day for lunch and who can pass up Joe Joe’s, right?

I LOVE FOOD TOO! I like Trader Joe’s (but my choices are rather limited with the gluten free thing), but the Berkeley Bowl? Seriously? I spent double my food budget in that place. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE RECOMMENDATION. OK enough shouting. I’m glad you had fun with Kermy and fam. I’m slightly jealous. I am not slightly jealous of you almost dying in the snow. Ugh. I’m glad you’re ok.
Whee! Berkeley Bowl!! I know, right!? You can shout at me about Berkeley Bowl anytime. I usually feel like gleefully shouting about it, too. I’m jealous you live close enough to it now to go. It is difficult not to buy up everything you see there, huh? It’s just so cool. It would have been so fun to have you on the trip, too, especially on our girls night.
Touristy or not…I LOVE BERKELEY BOWL TOO!!!
I definitely won’t make fun of your love of Trader Joe’s or Berkeley Bowl. I miss those places so much. We have a really great market in Houston that can almost compete with Berkeley Bowl on their selection of produce, but can in no way compete with their great prices. Sigh!
oh don’t worry..i love trader joe’s too. it’s just ALL so good. i don’t think i’ve tasted anything that WASN’T good. so, ya. i’m with ya, girl.
