Last week I went to a second hand store called Saver’s because I remembered Carrie from This Mama Makes Stuff writing about the great sheets she finds there that she uses to make dresses for her girls. Peanut is in desperate need of new dresses. All her old ones are getting too short and most of them are stained with paint, glue, and pretty much anything she’s eaten that I can’t wash out. I’ve been thinking maybe I’d make her a few simple summer dresses if I can find some inexpensive fabric and thinking about what Carrie suggested I perused Saver’s sheets section and found a couple of pretty pillowcases I wanted to refashion.
First up this cute little yellow and floral stripe pillowcase.
This afternoon I whipped up this little dress from it.
I love the way it turned out. Peanut’s favorite dress is her green ladybug dress that my mom made her ages ago and it is getting way too small so I decided to do a similar pattern for this dress in the hope that it can replace the green one.
Peanut was hesitant at first. She pouted and told me she didn’t like it so I told her she could take it off after I’d taken some photos. I took her outside to let her play while I took them and after about five minutes of playing in it she declared she “LOVE[S] this dress!” Oh, yay! Finally something I’ve made she’s happy to wear again!
I think she likes how easy it is to get on and off. She likes doing everything herself so not having to struggle with buttons and ties makes this dress a happy one for her.
I like that it reminds me of dresses from the Regency period with the Empire waist and soft print. Not too shabby for a $0.70 pillowcase.

Love it! You are so creative!
That is so cute!!! I love it! You are the funnest, cleverest mom! Love you and love how cute my little grandgirl is!
SO CUTE!! I don’t think I’ve seen a pillowcase made into a dress like that before. Tutorial??? Not that I have a little girl, but one can always hope
The dress turned out so beautiful!! Love the sleeves and the waist – everything is just perfect.
P.S. I think I have the sheet set to match the pillowcase
What a bargain!!! I love it.
LOOOOOVE IT! I have to start looking for vintage pillowcases and sheets! (Have you seen my friends blog? little cumulus? If not, check it out. She’s way into this stuff.)

very fun!!! I have a similar idea for a dress, but would love it if you posted directions to how you made it….
Oh my word!!! OUT OF A PILLOW CASE?!?!?! You are BEYOND talented and that dress is ADORABLE!!! Did they have pillow cases in my size and you can make one for me? Maybe?
And OF COURSE it would just be an afternoon that you “whip it up”. Talent spills out of you woman.
I’m stealing this idea and stopping at Savers today.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw you in the list of winners for the conference! What a treat! It will be fun to meet up while we are there and go to some classes together. Aren’t we lucky?!
