I’ve written recently about Wingnut taking a couple of steps at a time but not being willing to try more than that. On Saturday when I got my hair done I left him with my parents. By the time I got back from my appointment my mom and Teeny had him walking back and forth between them. Apparently he just needed some motivation.
In the form of marshmallows.
I don’t know why I didn’t think about it before. When Peanut decided to walk she just did it and I guess I expected Wingnut would be the same way. As it turns out Wingnut seems to need more of a reason and I guess food is it. He takes after his aunt that way. When Teeny was learning to walk we had to bribe her with marshmallows because she wanted to be carried everywhere but would walk if she was rewarded with something sweet. Wingnut is now beginning to be more daring. He’ll take a few steps between pieces of furniture and is happy to walk for marshmallows (or Peeps, smart boy!). He’s still more hesitant than Peanut ever was and is happier to continue crawling but I think he’s gaining a little more confidence on his feet and seems to be on his way to real unassisted walking.

See, this is yet another reason I need to live closer to my family. I just cannot have all the epiphanies by myself.
Smart kid! I tell ya, I’d do lots of crazy or daring things for marshmallows…
That is awesome. I think he must be very bright to realize NOT to do something until there’s some sort of motivation…and food is the best…
Ha! Love it. And I guess now that I think about it, being able to eat something sweet is pretty much what motivates me to go running in the morning!
my daughter will still do almost anything for marshmallows. she’s nearly 4…
