In Which I Regain My Vanity With a Cut and Color

Last night I got a call from my stylist’s salon (she’s the owner) telling me my stylist, K, had a cancellation.  K knew I’d been trying to get in and was on a big waiting list so because she’s freaking awesome and loves me she asked them to give me a call to see if I could make it in for the opening.  I, of course, jumped at it and informed ODD we’d be traipsing back to Tinytown again even though we were there just last weekend.

Since it was last minute I didn’t get to arrange lunch and playing with anyone (sorry, Darcy!) so I’ll have to try scheduling that and the other things I need to do on another day.

So we packed everyone into the car and ran over there this morning.  I dropped ODD and Peanut at ODD’s moms so he could do some things for her, then I dropped Wingnut at my parent’s house so they could love on him, and hurried over to the salon.

I was almost giddy with anticipation as I pulled into the parking lot of K’s new salon.  The last time I was in to see her she was at her old place preparing for the grand opening of her new place six weeks hence.  It’s beautiful!  I was greeted by the cute receptionist, offered a beverage, and didn’t even have time to sit down before K called me back.  K was gorgeous and friendly, as usual, and it was fun getting to visit with her again.  We decided to do a darker demi color on me so as it grew out it would fade nicely into my natural color the way my previous color had.  She knows how bad I am at getting in to get my hair taken care of.  She only ended up taking 3-ish inches off the length of my hair and it looks and feels so much better than it has at any other time for the last year.  She knows I used to be a stylist so she understand what it’s like trying to color my own hair and how it’s never quite the same as when someone else does it.  It just doesn’t feel like pampering when we do it ourselves.  We both agree getting our hair cut and colored by other people is like a happy treat.  She did a beautiful job, as always, and made me feel human again.  I’m so happy she was able to get me in today.  ODD is, too, so he doesn’t have to listen to me whine about it anymore.

Remember the before:

Needs a haircut

The richer, more polished after:

New cut and color

New cut and color

ODD likes it on the darker side like this so my face doesn’t fade into my hair like it can when my hair’s lighter.  I love not seeing a split end on every single hair I look at.  K likes that I look like Julianne Moore and hearing her say that makes me happy, too.  I’m still squeeing with glee at how pretty my hair looks.  K is my hero!
