For a while I’ve been wondering if I should trim up Wingnut’s hair. It’s pretty long and sometimes the front hangs in his eyes. I love it long, though, because it keeps him looking baby-ish to me and I’m not quite ready to let that go yet. Then a couple of nights ago ODD suggested cutting it because it was hanging over his ears. Hair hanging over ODD’s ears makes him crazy so he thought it might be making Wingnut crazy, too. So tonight I finally gave in a did it.
And I almost cried.
When I cut Peanut’s hair for the first time – even to just trim a quarter of an inch off – I felt ready. I don’t think I was ready for Wingnut’s cut.
One of my favorite things ever is when I’m nursing him and he reaches his round baby hand up to twiddle his hair. He twines his fat baby fingers into his fine baby tresses and tugs on them, twisting them around, and playing with them. It makes me want to kiss his sweet little hands when I see them absentmindedly pulling on his long locks.
After cutting his hair tonight I nursed him before bed and he tried twiddling his hair but there wasn’t much to grab hold of. He didn’t seem too fazed but it about tore my heart out and made me tear up a little again.
Before the cut. It really was quite long.
He’s sad about wearing a cape but notice the hair over his ears.
After the cut.
The haircut itself went well. He hated the cape and fussed until I took it off him at which point I discovered it had been irritating a little bit of his neck and had given him an owie. After the cape was removed, though, he was happy to sit there playing with my neck brush while I clipped, sprayed, and cut with only a little residual whimpering about his newly acquired neck irritation. I think next time I’ll forgo the cape altogether and cut his hair with him in just a diaper. Despite my misgivings about the new do it is nice to see everything evened up. I’m going to give it a lot of time before I cut it again, though, and next time I don’t think I’ll take it quite as short. I’m not really the kind of mom whose kid has shaggy hair but I’d love to be the mom whose kid has hair like Christopher Robin.

Oh he’s CUTE. Very, very cute. I love that you want him to look like Christopher Robin!
But Christopher Robin has hair over his ears.
He looks so handsome with his new do. You did a wonderful job but I know how heartbreaking that first haircut can be…
I’m so glad you got a picture of him playing with his hair. Wildkid did the same thing, with his ears too.
I never got a picture of it though. Love it!
(I told you Wingnut reminds me of baby Wildkid
I love my boys with long-enough hair that you can’t see their little scalps through it. But since they both have such sweaty heads, it pretty much has to go shorter in the summer.
Welcome to the world of baby-boy-hair-cuts. I’m glad he cooperated. Mine never do. I dread them.
I cried for days after the first cut. It’s never easy to let go of those baby locks.
I LOVE that he twirled his hair. That is the cutest thing ever.
I had no idea that he had so much hair! I think the new do looks fabulous.
He is darling. With long hair, with short hair…. I’m pretty sure he’d be cute with no hair.
The picture of him crying breaks my little heart.
Evan and I think he looks like you. Your features on a big head like Dan’s.
