I didn’t want to wake up at 6 this morning but when ODD’s alarm went off it just happened. I tried to deny it and laid in bed for another 20 minutes hoping I could fall back asleep. My brain was awake, though. Thinking about some of the projects I’ve been working on and designs I need to get on paper. So after 20 minutes I decided I may as well make use of this kid-free time I had available.
I exercised and had a shower, fed Wingnut, and got to work.
I drafted a new pattern, cut it out, and had most of it done before I even heard Peanut – very happy news. After getting her up, fed, and settled, I finished and had her try it on. There are a few things I’ll do differently the next time I make the pattern but not too bad for a first run. Once again, Peanut didn’t want to wear the dress but I made her anyway cuz, you know, I’m a mean mom.
I had a long, long, oh, and did I mention, long day yesterday so after getting Peanut in bed I consoled myself with some onion rings while sewing up a couple of pairs of shoes for Wingnut. They are made with the same pattern I used for his blessing shoes. I love them and have plans for a few more.
A week or so ago I came downstairs to find a small glass full of beads. Upon closer inspection I found they were the beads from ODD’s favorite baby gift ever – the BYU binkie clip. He had pulled it too far and was left with a handful of beads. I don’t have beading skills so I can’t put it back together but I can sew and thought I’d make Wingnut a new clip. I’d seen Kerflops super-cute clips on Balancing Everything so mine is basically a rip-off of hers but it isn’t as cute or fun and I’d much rather have one of hers anyday. I did think this wood-grain ribbon was kind of cute, though. And it works well for my binkie boy.
I’ve also been eying these cute little sandals on Etsy and bought the pattern last week. I changed them just a little bit but they whipped together quickly and I love the way they look. When I showed them to my mom I thought she was going to die laughing. We think they look like little baby Birkenstocks. They make me happy.
I guess even with my little boy I’m a shoes horse. Man, this shoe addiction runs deep.
I also saw this great idea someplace (No link cuz I can’t remember where) and thought I’d try my hand at them. Reusable snack bags. So I made up a pattern and now we have nice little snack bags for church, picnics, and just running around. I think they’re so cute and, as we all know, cute wrappers make food taste better.

I seriously can’t believe you just “whip” up a pattern!!!! Are you kidding me?!?!? But seriously those sandal/birkenstock shoes are TO DIE FOR!!! So cute.
Peanut’s dress is super cute too and I love the colors. Man, you’re an animal
You are so very clever!!! So, so cute! And every time I look at that picture with Wingnut’s fat little feet in those birkenstocks, I still laugh so hard I think I’ll pee my pants!
oh my gosh you are so talented. i love how you just “whip things up” that would take an untalented person such as myself a very long time to figure out.
those little knitted shoes are DARLING!! soooo funny and cute! and look at his scrumptious little toes!! don’t you just want to nibble? also love LOVE the wood-grained ribbon; where ever did you find that? i’d love to track that down. i’m into the “faux bois” look these days. thanks for sharing your talent!! way to go!!
I am SO taking your snackbag idea and running with it.
Abby was just looking at Peanut and exclaiming loudly (because everything she does she does loudly): ” Look MOM! It’s ME! It’s ME!!
I think maybe you are also a craft horse. I wish I could watch you work.
I love all your projects and am totally glad you’re finding them all out and perfecting them for when I decide I need to copy you!
You’ve got the best dressed kids in town, that’s for sure!
You are so dang crafty! Truly cute stuff…and I totally support living out your shoe addiction through your kids!!! Although that isn’t coming from the healthiest of shoe addicted persons…I think Little Bug has got about ten pairs already…and I counted mine the other day and I’m not even gonna say how many I have!!! Or claim that I don’t need more…just don’t tell Andrew.
Holy smokes, you are amazing. I would love to have a birkenstock lesson sometime. Your baby looks so cute.
Those sandals are the cutest!!! I wish I was as crafty as you!!
You should make and sell those baby sandals at ODD’s (future) office. I’m sure all the old ladies who come in would go ga-ga over them and buy them for their grandbabies. Plus, you could say they are podiatrist-recommended.
How do you do it?! Have 2 kids and be all crafty and stuff. Last week, I think I, um, did some laundry? And thought about doing preschool and few times….but didn’t. Sheesh!
[...] boyish prints so I could sew up some little boy shoes. I used the Stardust shoes pattern I used last time I made him some shoes. His feet have grown a bit so I had to enlarge the pattern. This time I actually paid attention [...]
