A while ago I began reading Fancy Nancy to Peanut. She loves it, especially when Nancy slips while carrying the parfaits to her family. Anyway, there’s this dress that Fancy Nancy wears in the book with lors of ruffly layers (the one she’s wearing here) that I’ve wanted to replicate but couldn’t quite figure out how. While I was paying a visit to H&M while in CA for graduation I happened upon the real-life equivilant of this dress. I was thrilled and, though, it was more than I usually spend on a dress for Peanut I snatched it up anyway figuring I could use it as a pattern eventually and it would pay for itself. I thought she would love it. When I brought it home I got a “meh” response from Peanut and she hasn’t worn it a single time. Until Saturday.
Peanut’s friend A had a birthday party on Saturday. It was a princess party so Peanut had to dress up like a princess. Despite having lots of cute clothes she wears either the same dress or one of two shirts all. the. time. so I wasn’t sure how willing she would be to wear anything else. We don’t own any princess dresses exactly but I thought her Fancy Nancy dress would do perfectly. To warm her up to the idea I began telling her about a week beforehand that she would be wearing her Fancy Nancy dress to A’s party. On Saturday morning I pulled out one of her favorite shirts to weear under it in the hope that it would intice her to wear the Fancy Nancy princess dress. She was not happy about it and I had to wrestle her into the thing. She looked very cute but was not happy with me for forcing her to wear it.
A wore her Cinderella dress and looked absolutely darling. I let Peanut wear one of my necklaces and bracelets and she looked pretty darn cute, too. Unfortunately I never managed to get a photo of her. Even after all the trouble of getting her into the Fancy Nancy dress. *sigh* That’s life sometimes, though, I guess.
Here’s A looking like Cinderella.
They had a fun castle bounce house at the party and even a guest apprearance by Cinderella herself. Peanut, of course, was terrified of Cinderella and wouldn’t even look at the cute girl the entire time she was there. We had yummy food and watched A open her presents. She got a lot of princess stuff – a little of it from us.
Using a tutorial from Balancing Everything I made a cute little crown for Peanut to wear to the party and one to give to A.
Peanut’s is the one with the shoe button – naturally. The other one was for A.
Peanut actually happily wore the crown for a picture. I was pretty shocked.
I also made up a cute little cape for A and let Peanut choose the fabric for it. She chose a dark purple. When it was done I made Peanut model it for me before wrapping it up and she didn’t want to (per usual) and cried and whined while I took the photo. At least you can see what it looks like.
It was a really cute party and we had a lot of fun playing and visiting.

Oh, our darling little perpetually perturbed princess!
She makes me laugh. I love how the crowns and the cape turned out. So very cute and fun!
PS – You need to get on Jo’s facebook page. She got several pictures of Peanut in her Fancy Nancy frock and she posted them there.
We love Fancy Nancy! Karen has that book memorized! Are you on FB?
@ Lauren,
Nope, but ODD is. You should look him up. I do have an account but deactivated it cuz I never used it. I just never really got into the whole FB scene.
I was so hoping to see the pictures of the dress! Oh, well, I do understand cute outfits refusing to be worn by cute little girls all too well!
Seriously lady, how do you make the time?! I can’t seem to get to fun craft stuff for the life of me.
Darling cloak and crowns! You are just too good! And I love the curtains too. You make me seriously wish I knew how to sew.
I LOVE her haircut, tears aside. SO cute!
I’m stealing the crown idea from you, too. Very cute.
Soo funny that she was afraid of Cinderella! hahah Love the dress, cape and tiera!
We love Fancy Nancy at our house too, and my girl Kelli loves to dress as her, and accessorize!
That cape is so cute…perfect present for a princess theme party.
Oh, I love hearing that other moms deal with the demands and whims of toddlers, too! My oldest son hates to get dressed unless he gets to wear a shirt with some sort of vehicle on it.
I love that cape! I would wear it!
