Chopped

Peanut has been looking like a ragamuffin for quite some time now.  I’m not surprised.  Her last haircut was around Christmas.  Her hair has gotten so long and scraggley it doesn’t look good anymore even freshly washed.  I’ve been thinking about how I want to cut it for some time and have talked about it with ODD quite a few times.  He always talks me out of cutting it.  Today during church, though, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and finally decided what I was going to do.  I didn’t talk to ODD about what I wanted to do and had plans to do it tomorrow while he was at work but he got called in tonight after dinner.

So I did it tonight while he was gone.

I cut off 6+ inches.

And I absolutely adore it.

Peanut, on the other hand is rather undecided.  She watched every snip and was happy to watch.  When she touched it afterward, though, she was a little disturbed.  Basically she freaked out and cried.  I gave her a bath and she calmed down but every time I’ve told her how pretty she looks she whines back that she can’t have pretty hair.  Fine.  Whatever.  It’s still pretty.  I even gave her a cuddle and talked about it.  I asked her if she missed it being long.  No.  Did she like it short.  No.  Does she wish it was curly still.  No.  Does she like it straighter.  No.  So basically she’s just being cranky about it.  I think in a few days she’ll be over it and in the mean time I think it’s fantastic.

Then ODD came home.  I sent him up to kiss her goodnight and told him not to mention any changes he may have noticed in her.  He came back downstairs a few minutes later and asked, “What the. . . .?!”  He was pretty shocked and asked why I hadn’t told him I wanted to cut it.  After explaining that I knew he would try to talk me out of it he conceeded and agreed that she looked a billion times better and was happy I did it.  Still shocked, but happy.  He keeps walking by me saying things like, “I leave the house for ten minutes. . .” or “Is there anything else you plan to drastically change?”  He loves me.  *grin*

Most of her curl is gone which I’m not too sad about.  She still has a little, though, and it helps the bottom curve under nicely.  I love it and am just so happy she doesn’t look like a little homeless child anymore.
