At least it seems early to me. It seems like last time I was a bit further along when it kicked in. Maybe it’s just my bad memory. Either way, I seem to be nesting today. There are many things in my home that have been making me crazy and today I finally had the energy and motivation to do something about a lot of it.
- After cleaning the kitchen this morning I also cleaned the bathroom which was in serious need of some love.
- I wrote and sent a letter to our health insurance company about some changes that need to be made.
- I cleared off the top of the microwave as well as the dishwasher. There were so many piles it took a while to sort through it all, but now it’s mostly organized and I don’t cringe every time I look at the corner where the microwave and dishwasher reside.
- I cleared off the end of the table we don’t eat at and finally gathered all the garbage Peanut has decided to shred and spread all over the house.
- The table has been wiped down well and I have a new tablecloth on it (NYDD added a leaf to make it bigger so our old one didn’t fit anymore).
- I tossed a bunch of stuff from the refrigerator that was starting to speak to me and/or growing fur.
- I cleaned out and reorganized my pantry which was a complete disaster so now I can see whether I have cream of chicken soup or not and I tossed a bunch of stuff from there that was embarrassingly old and would probably make us sick if we ate it.
- Also, before her nap this afternoon, I had Peanut clean up all her belongings from the kitchen and living room which will inevitably find their way back out again before too long, but it gave me at least a little temporary sanity this afternoon.
I feel so happy about today, aside from the many times Peanut had a meltdown because she’s, you know, two and apparently having a difficult day. Hopefully she’ll have a better day tomorrow and I can continue my fun cleaning and organizing rampage.
Still on the agenda, assuming this happy burst of energy doesn’t fizzle into blah-ness:
- I want to organize and bind all the random bits of paper with recipes scrawled on them so I know where to find what I’m looking for.
- Begin working on our taxes (shouldn’t take too terribly long since we haven’t actually made any money since May).
- Organize the filing cabinet, especially all the insurance papers we’ve collected since we moved here.
- Make a D.I. run to clear some closet space and pack away and of Peanut’s clothes that are getting too small.
- Rearrange the food storage that’s still next to Peanut crib so it isn’t easily accessible to her anymore.
- Clear the top of my dresser of all the random crap that’s accumulated there.
- Purge the toiletries cabinet of anything we don’t need anymore.
- Put away all the laundry I did and folded, um, last Friday.
- Clean out the freezer which I’m sure is harboring ancient inedibles, then put everything back in an orderly way so things don’t come cascading out every time the door is opened.
- Make the bookshelves in the living room look presentable again as they are currently filled with piles of chaos.
Now that I see it all written down it seems a little daunting, but I think with all my nesting energy, even if it doesn’t happen tomorrow, I’ll be able to get my life a little more under control over the next little while. What a nice thought.

Careful. Making lists is dangerous, especially if you’re like me and try to get it all done in one day, and then stress about it when you can’t.
Your daughter is so cute! I loved the ballet video. I need to meet her one of these days. Perhaps we’ll make it up to Utah this year.
Tell NYDD good luck! I hope you get the place you want to go!
Holy Cow- you’ve got some energy!! I have piles all over too- and they drive me nuts. I can’t see the top of my washer or dryer, and the end of the table we don’t eat at tends to acumulate piles too. Dunno what that’s about…
I have laundry from before we went to CA that I haven’t folded yet. Shhhhhh- don’t tell anyone.
I can’t believe you don’t love being attacked by the contents of your freezer!! That’s definitely the highlight of MY day.
Way to use your energy for good; I should follow your lead.
Hello Stranger! It has been years!!! I found your blog via Dominoes, and thought I’d take a look! Your little peanut is so cute! (Peanut was my nickname growing up too!) I especially love the dancing video. We just had our second in October, Jane, and seeing those tutus and fairy wings got me all excited for when she’s a little older. You are such a cute pregnant lady! Congrats!

Now that is what I call serious nesting energy! Way to go really getting things done. I have a long list like that too… if I get to two things on it a week then I consider it a good week.
hahahaha, you and i are the SAME.
you have no idea how long my to-do list is. ever since i’ve gotten back from Christmas vacation i’ve been on the go redecorating and organizing..it’s really been wonderful and i’ve crossed a lot off of my list {and added a lot}.
unfortunately i think i’m hitting that point in my pregnancy where i’m getting bigger and achey and not able to do as much. this morning i had a nervous moment where i was afraid my nesting energy was expired and i’m not done with the kids bedroom! paul agreed to help but..i hope i’m not too tired to finish what i want to finish.
Way to go! I love nesting…although I think I do it even when I’m not pregnant. ;o)
Ah, the energy.
Enjoy it while it lasts!
USE it while it lasts too!
wow, that is super early. I only nested with my youngest and I didn’t start nesting until about a week before he came. The day I went into labor was crazy, I had the most crazy nesting EVER, I had every nook and cranny clean and I did the BIGGEST grocery shopping job I’ve ever done to be good for a month. Seriously, weird. . . but I went into labor that night, so I guess it was good I got it all done!!! Happy nesting. i wish we were closer and you could come ‘nest’ my house!
Wow! You’ve been busy!
I am really glad my nesting kicked in way early and I was able to get things in shape right before I went on bedrest! I didn’t really have the urge with BL. I really enjoyed it this time around.
I thought it was funny when you mentioned being able to find cream of chicken soup in the pantry. Can’t you just look in Peanut’s purse?
[...] actually accomplished a lot of the things I wanted to with all my nesting energy. There’s still a lot I want to do, some already mentioned, some not, but I thought [...]
