Big Haircut

As you may have noticed Peanut’s hair is getting quite long.  It grows like crazy and the wild curliness is getting sort of not-so-cute.  I’ve trimmed the very bottom about 1/4 inch once of twice just to even it up, but she has this kind of shelf that I’ve never really touched.  It’s from when she rubbed all the hair off the back of her head as a little baby.  It grew in around the same time the top of her hair reached the bald spot.  So everything below her occipital bone is about 2-3 inches longer than everything above her occipital bone.  It’s gotten so long and stragely lately I’ve been wanting to cut it but any time I bring it up NYDD puts up a bit of a fight.

Until this weekend.

On Saturday NYDD commented on how yucky it was looking and that it’s been getting nasty looking a lot quicker these days.  Then he suggested maybe it was time to cut it.  I must say I was pretty shocked and got excited about giving her a little bob.  NYDD was reluctant to have that much chopped off so we compromised and I agreed to take it up only to a little above the top shelfy thing.

Today was the big day.  I straightened it, cut it dry, then gave her a bath to see if all the curl went away – sort of a concern we had with chopping off a lot.  Interestingly the curl looks a lot better.  All the stragely ends were really weighing it down, I think.  She loved getting her hair done, was excited to wear the “apron”, and held her head the way I asked her to.  What a big girl!

Can you see the shelf?

And here’s what I cut off:

Pardon the staticy straight shots.  With the changing weather and the snow the static has been crazy here.  I love the way it looks, though.  When it’s curly I think it looks sort of 30′s/40′s Hollywood glamour, which I really love.
