Long Winded

Not this post. My new book.

After our school loan refund check was safely deposited in the bank I published the most recent year of my blog. I used BlogPrinting.com again and designed my own covers with the Autumn Beauty Kit by Laura Ping from Polka Dot Potato because that was one of my favorite banners from last year. It took quite a bit longer to upload this time than last time because, well, apparently I’m becoming long winded. And I also post a lot of pictures. So my 2006 book was 142 pages from Jan-Dec. My 2007 book is 406 pages from Jan-Dec. Woah. I didn’t realize I was posting that much more. So it came today and it’s big. I showed NYDD when he got home and he was surprised by the size, too. It’s all pretty and shiny and I’m really happy to have it all in hard copy. If you haven’t published yourself yet you really should. There are quite a few places to do it. If you don’t want to use BlogPrinting, you could also try Blurb (among others). Aubrey used Blurb to print a little book for some friends as a wedding gift and it turned out beautifully. So really, go! Do it! It’s worth every penny.

  • i am laughing at the distinct difference in size between these two years. it looks beautiful. i need to get mine done, it’s long overdue.

  • Wow! You already have your 2007 book? That’s awesome! And I love your design. I’m really going to look into that.

  • I just got mine from Qoob, too! thanks for the idea- I didn’t know we could do that until you posted. Mine is pretty darn thick, too- I think 509 pages- So I guess I’m more long-winded than you!

With shipping mine was under $30- but I did opt for the black and white internals- and I ordered it before DH lost his job last week. Talk about an Unnecessary expense… oh well. I’m still glad I have it.

  • @ Aubrey,
I laughed when I realized hoe much more I posted, too. You definitely need to. I think everyone should. :)

    @ Dom,
Thanks. Yep, as soon as the year was up and we had money again I jumped on it. NYDD’s so happy about it. There are so many little things in it that I don’t have recorded anywhere else.

    @ Tracy,
That’s awesome! I haven’t heard of Qoob. I’m glad you have it, even if it makes thing $30 tighter now. I feel that way about a lot of things I buy when things start getting tight for us. Buyer’s remorse/guilt.

Whoever came up with the idea is brilliant. I don’t know how I’d deal if I had to print everything off myself. NYDD had told me I should, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. What would I do with all the loose pages with a little one running around and where would I find the time!? It’s so much better to have it all bound.

  • I am so freaking prolific I shudder at the thought of what it would cost me.

Plus, when I moved from Blogger I lost half the photos from my posts.

  • I’m waiting for one solid year when Fozzie doesn’t accidentally delete half of my blog! (This should be the year since I took it off our home server.) Then, of course, I will beg you to design the cove, because I am a) not crafty at all and b) covered in children.

I also lost a lot of pics when I came over to wordpress, and plan to put them back in. Maybe. Heh.

  • so just out of curiosity, how much does one of those cost? that is so neat!!! I’d love to do that with my family blog (when it could be a little thicker, that is).

  • That is a really neat idea! I’m gonna have to most definitely look into that!

  • Oh yeah, I’m with Kris…About how much does that cost?

  • oh wow, love it.
i have been trying to do a *kiwi DIY (do it yourself, which is what kiwis do)* job on mine, but it is taking a-g-e-s, cos i am insisting that that the layout looks good, and of course every post is in different font lol.
i’ve done two months of twenty, i am procrastinating the rest.
    i. must. just. do. it.
    love

  • @ Kris and Aliese,
It depends on what you order and how big it is. Black and white is cheaper than color which is all I was going to do, but NYDD convinced me to go color, which is more expensive. My first one with 142 pgs was about $50-60 (I don’t remember exactly) including shipping and everything. This last one was so huge it was quite a bit more, but still better than printing them all of myself, I thought. For 406 pages in full color it was about $125 with shipping and everything. You can also order different sizes. Mine are 8×10, but they also have 8/5×11 and a smaller size that I can’t remember. Like I said, if all you want is black and white it will be a lot cheaper, which is why I was so surprised NYDD wanted me to get it in color, but since it’s kinda priceless he thought it was worth the money and I’m happy with it.

    @ Kate,
That is so cool and very ambitious. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together when it’s finished.

  • @ LL,
Yours would be HUGE! I’m liking doing it in littler chunks. No so painful to the pocketbook in little bits. :) Grr. The photo thing is a problem. I had to copy all mine over manually. It sucked royally.

    @ Kermit,
Just let me know when you’re ready. And good luck with holding on to all your stuff. :D Losing all this would be devastating for me which is mostly why I wanted to have it in hard copy. In case anything bad like that ever happened. When you lost of bunch of your stuff I was so sad for you and it wasn’t even my stuff!

  • Love that idea! I really need to print my blog when the time comes! Do you think that your blogs will just get bigger and bigger each year? I am curious to see? I do love all of the fun posts and pictures though! Compared to some “LONG-WINDED PEOPLE” I like your version of being “LONG-WINDED ONLINE! hahahahahah i can catch up on your life whenever i want! Way to go for going into so much detail! Your kids will love to read about it later in life!

  • This is so awesome! It’s exactly what I want to do with my blog at the end of 2008!

    Love your cover design too!

You can be as long-winded as you like- I love reading your stories!!!

  • brilliant! :o ) I’ve been thinking about looking into something like this. I think I’ll begin my ‘neck turning the head’ operation soon (My Big Fat Greek Wedding scene). lol! I love the difference in size! You are such a wonderful novelist. ;o)

  • I started to make my own book on Blurb, but it was so much work and I am lazy. I love yours though!!!

  • @ Jamie,
Isn’t blogging the best. I can catch up on friend’s lives when I have time and leave it when I want to without feeling bad. :)

    @ Adventures,
Thanks! You’re so kind to me. You should totally do it when you feel like you have enough to print. It’s awesome.

    @ Lauren,
BlogPrinting was super-easy. You don’t even need to design your own cover. You can just choose something they already have. Easy peasy. And thanks!

    @ Jayci,
ROFL at the BFGW reference. :D Woohoo! Do it!

  • mom

I think you should write about our family’s connection to BFGW – remember when we were planning your wedding and we were the big fat greeks?

  • @ mom,
